SMAS Cluster Meeting. Wednesday 29th Jan. 2003, 11:00.Microarrays - a Mega-Variate ChallengeBrian Middleton, EST Statistical Sciences Group, AstraZeneca. K14, Hick's Building. The Human Genome is here, we can predict what our genes are, we can even `grow' them or put them on a piece of glass using microarrays. This leads to datasets with many more variables (genes) than cases (chips or samples) - the mega-variate challenge. There are many issues that arise, from microarray technology itself and from the use of the technology to answer questions in the Pharmaceutical Industry from Research right through to Targetted Medicine. The talk will show that Statistics and Statistical Thinking has a crucial role, one that will expand with ever more newer technologies. | |
